The Adventures of TinTin

The Adventures of TinTin is a well renowned, iconic comic series featuring a gang wildly varying in personality solving heroic cases. I chose to read the story "Explorers on the Moon", in which the gang get shipped to the Moon in a freak accident, and shenanigans ensue as they figure out how to survive and get back to Earth.

What I found particularly interesting and unique about the TinTin comics was their extremely simplified but pristine artistic style. Every line inked is intentional and has a use. Captain Haddock is rugged and so has hairs out of place, while Tintin is very round, very well kept, and so has very few lines to describe his appearance. Herges doesn't bother wasting time creating unnecessary detail, the focus is all on the story and what is being told, in a very clear clean manner.

The characters are also extremely interesting, in the similar way of throwing together people you would not see interact willingly, and in doing so, creates very interesting and funny situations given the idea that each character would approach a problem differently, and that in itself causes additional issues, often humorous and easily more interesting than a cohesive efficient performance team. The detectives are goofs and find themselves having consumed pills that make their hair grow wild and sick, Captain Haddock's first reaction to getting stuck on the way to the Moon is to drink, and Tintin, the ever so diligent investigator, immediately sets on making action plans. The dynamics play into each other with endless possibilities and easily generates humorous outcomes and solutions less straightforward and more about having fun along the journey.
